As a steel fabricator, Zimkor is proud to work with the greenest, greatest raw material available on earth (steel is on average 91% recycled materials). Steel by far provides the best value as a sustainable building material not only for recycled content but is the best choice for speed of construction, safety on jobsites and the flexibility/capability of steel materials and not just as a structural material but an architectural expression.

Steel construction is by far the greenest element in construction today and has been decades our domestic mills are state of the art recycling marvels; no other building material can claim steel’s environmental benefits.

The raw materials for tomorrow’s steel structures are above the ground/in use today as other buildings, automobiles, home appliances, etc. The raw materials for concrete and timber must mined and/or harvested continually. 

The production of raw steel shapes (wide flange, tube, plate, etc.) accounts for about 90% of the total life cycle energy usage in steel construction from steel. Once steel shapes are produced the remaining fabrication and installation energy usage is about 10% of the total.

Steel construction on site is quick, low man hour intensive and low in energy footprint.

Steel construction is versatile, beautiful, safe and powerful. This includes the necessary misc. metals (stairs, rails in particular) that are required even when other structural materials used. Misc. metals requires a higher level of skill and approach for success and Zimkor has always prided itself as experts in the field.

Steel scrap is captured and reclaimed by Zimkor into the recycle stream as we fabricate our work (from unusable drops to the dusts generated thru production and everything in between).

Zimkor endeavors to continually reduce or eliminate our use of paper products where feasible/practical.

Zimkor endeavors to use and supports the latest technology throughout our facility for lighting efficiency and energy conservation (not to mention boosting illumination in all areas of our facility and improving visibility/safety).

Zimkor supports and encourages appropriate positions to work from home as needed to reduce our commute load and allow employees to better balance duties.

Zimkor endeavors to provide all employees the chance for advancement and growth as their skills and desire merit; we routinely promote from within and gladly expend the time, effort and resources to train and develop our staff accordingly.

Zimkor continually examines and evaluates the use of cutting-edge technology for every aspect of our operations; from material intake to final product shipping to sites we strive to examine better ways to operate.

As an AISC Certified Fabricator our clients can rest assured we produce a quality product that meets or exceeds their requirements and prevents/minimizes any quality issues and any follow up corrective work. This includes AISC efforts to promote and improve green fabrication.

Zimkor supports and applauds all Buy American efforts and ordinances recognizing they result in the least impact to our environment. Foreign mills cannot make the same assurances for environmental considerations/there is a reason imports are cheaper!

Zimkor recognizes safety, sustainability and positive attitudes are direct drivers of profitability (and conversely the lack of these attributes spells a lack of profitability).

Zimkor pledges to periodically review and revise this policy to reflect changes in law, technology or other sustainability related issues.
